The Grand East, is the meeting of representatives of all Lodges of the Dutch Order of Freemasons, which is takes place at least once a year. During the Grand East, the central administration of the order is elected and other domestic affairs are settled.

If ‘Grand’ is mentioned in front of a function, it means that it is a function of the central administration. Each Lodge has, for example, a presiding master,  a treasurer and a secretary. Within the central administration these are called the Grand Master, Grand Treasurer and Grand Secretary.

The fact that ‘under the Grand East of the Netherlands’ has been added to the name ‘Order of Freemasons’ shows the value attached to this meeting of representatives of the Lodges
