How do you become a Freemason?
Many people think you have to be invited. That is not the case: you can contact a lodge near you directly. Becoming a Freemason does not happen overnight, however. The introductory process takes time by design, giving both you and the lodge the opportunity to get to know one another properly. This reflects the character of Freemasonry itself: a community built on trust.
Find a lodge near you
The lodge finder shows which lodges are active in your area. In larger cities there are often several, each with its own character. See which lodge suits you best.
Get in touch
The lodge’s website explains how to make contact, for example through a contact form or by email. The lodge will then contact you.
Get acquainted
Over the course of several conversations, you get to know the lodge and the lodge gets to know you. Together, you consider whether Freemasonry is right for you and discuss your expectations. This is not a hurdle, but a beginning.
Decide on membership
If the introductory process goes well, the lodge may decide to admit you. This is followed by your initiation, through which you become a member of both the lodge and the Grand East of the Netherlands.
Freemasonry is not a casual commitment. Lodges meet regularly and expect engagement from their members. Applications are therefore considered carefully.
